As and 80s kid, 80s
games were my first introduction to gaming. The first
80s systems to make me salivate were systems like:
IntelliVision
Atari 2600
Odyssey
Coleco Vision
Nintendo
I had the Atari 2600. I was in Germany on a business trip in 2004 and saw on
in mint condition in a computer store. I was in love. For me,
that little box takes me right into my childhood and it feels
good. I guess you can get the Atari 2600 on sites like eBay for
a reasonable price or just play 80s games online.
I remember my friend had the Coleco Vision and Intellivision and the graphics
were way better. I really wanted one of those, but we couldn't
afford it. I bought an Odyssey from some guy would was poorer
than us for like $10. It was worth every penny... barely. I did
like Bump N Jump and UFO.
Then came the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Nintendo changed the game
forever. They really raised the bar on what was acceptable game
play.
Games like Double Dribble and Punch Out had
boys like me completely amazed. I'll never forget the first time
I saw someone
slam on Double Dribble.
I believe that one of the greatest 80s games of all times has got to be The Legend
of Zelda. It was released in 1987 in the U.S. (1986 in Japan). It is such and incredible
game. The 80s really marked a great move away from the Pong generation
and toward what it is today, a billion dollar industry.
